About

Aeroméxico, established in 1934, is Mexico's flag carrier airline with its main hub at Mexico City International Airport (IATA code: MEX). As of 2024, the airline operates a fleet of 114 aircraft, including Boeing 737-800, 737 MAX 8, 737 MAX 9, and Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners. It serves 94 destinations worldwide, including routes in Mexico, the United States, Latin America, Europe, Canada, and Asia. Aeroméxico is a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance, providing passengers access to a global network of over 1,088 destinations in 184 countries. The airline has a young fleet with an average age of 7.2 years, ensuring operational efficiency and passenger comfort.

Dedicated to delivering exceptional service, Aeroméxico offers three main travel classes: Clase Premier (Business Class), AM Plus (Premium Economy), and Main Cabin (Economy). Select aircraft are equipped with modern amenities such as personal on-demand entertainment, Wi-Fi connectivity, and power outlets. The airline's loyalty program, Club Premier, enables passengers to earn and redeem points on flights and services across its extensive network and partner airlines. Aeroméxico continues to expand its operations, recently adding new international routes to its schedule, emphasizing innovation and passenger satisfaction.

Check-in

Aeroméxico offers multiple check-in options to accommodate passenger preferences. For domestic flights, online check-in is available starting 48 hours before the scheduled departure time, while for international flights, it opens 24 hours prior. Passengers can complete this process via the Aeroméxico website or mobile app by entering their booking reference or frequent flyer number. This service allows travelers to select or change seats, obtain a boarding pass, and save time at the airport. Mobile boarding passes can be saved to a smartphone for added convenience.

For those who prefer traditional methods, Aeroméxico's airport check-in counters open three hours before departure for both domestic and international flights. These counters close 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes prior for international flights. Self-service kiosks are also available at select airports, enabling passengers to check in, select seats, and print boarding passes. It's important to note that baggage drop-off counters close 45 minutes before domestic flights and 60 minutes before international flights. Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before domestic departures and three hours before international departures to ensure a smooth check-in process.

Baggage Allowance

Passengers are permitted to carry one standard carry-on bag and one personal item onboard at no extra charge. The standard carry-on bag should not exceed dimensions of 55 cm x 40 cm x 25 cm (21.6 inches x 15.7 inches x 9.8 inches), including wheels and handles. Personal items may include a handbag, laptop bag, or briefcase and should fit under the seat in front of you.

Special Luggage

Aeroméxico accommodates the transportation of special items such as sports equipment and musical instruments, subject to specific guidelines:

  • Sports Equipment: Items like bicycles, golf bags, and surfboards are accepted as checked baggage. Each piece must not exceed 32 kg (70 lbs) in weight and 294 cm (115 inches) in length for wide-body aircraft, or 204 cm (80 inches) for narrow-body aircraft. Oversized or overweight items may incur additional fees.

  • Musical Instruments: Small instruments that fit within the carry-on dimensions and weight limits can be brought onboard as part of the carry-on allowance. Larger instruments must be checked and should adhere to the standard checked baggage size and weight restrictions. Instruments exceeding these limits may require special handling and could be subject to additional charges.

Seat Selection

Aeromexico has different seat setups on its planes. The Boeing 787 Dreamliners have Clase Premier, the business class. This offers comfort and privacy with unique seat layouts.

In economy class, seats are arranged in a 3-3-3 pattern. This makes room for everyone comfortably.

For more legroom, AM Plus is available on some flights. It's found on Boeing 737 and Embraer 190 planes. These have two classes of service. Passengers can pick their seats based on what they like and can afford.

Seat Type Starting Price (USD) Features
Economy 20 Standard seating
AM Plus 30 Extra legroom
Clase Premier Varies Premium comfort, enhanced service

Prices for seat selection change based on the flight and where you book. Domestic flights in Mexico start at 349 MXN. International flights start at 599 MXN. Booking outside Mexico, domestic flights start at 20 USD/GBP/EUR. International flights start at 30 USD/GBP/EUR.

Loyalty Program

Aeromexico's Club Premier program rewards loyal customers with many benefits. It has four elite tiers: Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Titanium. Each tier needs a certain number of points or flight segments to qualify.

Club Premier members earn points based on their status. Basic members get 8 points per U.S. dollar spent on flights. Elite members earn more, with Titanium members getting the most at 8 extra points per dollar.

Status Points Required Segments Required Extra Points per $
Silver 25,000 25 2
Gold 50,000 50 3
Platinum 80,000 80 5
Titanium 100,000 100 8

Club Premier lets members earn and redeem points in many ways. They can earn points through partners like Accor and Hilton. Plus, they can transfer points from major credit card rewards programs, making it even more valuable for frequent travelers.

As a SkyTeam alliance member, Aeromexico's Club Premier offers SkyTeam benefits across partner airlines.

Food & Beverage

Aeroméxico provides complimentary food and beverage services across all its flights, with offerings tailored to flight duration and class of service. On short-haul flights, passengers can enjoy light snacks such as cookies or pastries, accompanied by a selection of beverages. For long-haul international flights, the airline offers full meal services, including hot meals and a variety of drinks. Notably, after 11:00 AM, alcoholic beverages, including tequila, are available to passengers at no extra charge.

In Clase Premier, Aeroméxico's business class, the culinary experience is elevated with menus crafted by renowned chef Enrique Olvera, showcasing gourmet dishes that reflect Mexican cuisine. Passengers with specific dietary requirements can request special meals by contacting the airline at least 48 hours before departure. These special meal options cater to various needs, including vegetarian, diabetic, and gluten-free diets, ensuring a comfortable and accommodating in-flight experience for all travelers.

In-Flight Entertainment

Aeroméxico offers a comprehensive in-flight entertainment (IFE) system across its fleet, providing passengers with a diverse selection of movies, TV shows, music, and games. On aircraft equipped with personal seatback screens, such as the Boeing 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner, travelers can enjoy on-demand content throughout their journey. Additionally, the airline's 737 MAX aircraft allow the use of wireless headphones, enhancing the viewing experience.

Furthermore, Aeroméxico provides in-flight Wi-Fi on its Boeing 787, 737 MAX, and 737-800 aircraft, allowing passengers to browse the internet, stream music, and videos during their flight. This connectivity ensures that travelers can stay connected and entertained throughout their journey.

Pet Policy

Aeroméxico enforces specific rules and limitations for the transportation of pets. For in-cabin travel, cats and dogs must be at least 8 weeks old and placed in an approved, hard-sided carrier that fits under the seat in front of you. The carrier should provide enough space for the pet to move comfortably and must remain closed throughout the flight. The combined weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 9 kg (20 lbs). Each passenger is allowed to bring only one pet, and the pet must stay inside the carrier for the entire flight. In-cabin pet transportation is limited to flights lasting a maximum of 6 hours. Additionally, some brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds are not permitted due to health concerns.

Larger pets or those that do not meet in-cabin requirements can be transported in the aircraft’s pressurized and temperature-controlled cargo hold. In such cases, the total weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 45 kg (99 lbs). Passengers are responsible for providing all required health documents for the destination and are advised to contact the airline in advance to arrange pet transportation, as there are limitations on the number of pets allowed per flight. Additional fees apply for both in-cabin and cargo pet transportation, with costs varying depending on the route and destination.

Lounge Usage

Aeromexico has premium lounges called Salon Premier lounges. The main one is at Mexico City International Airport in Terminal 2. Clase Premier ticket holders get in for free. AM Plus passengers can pay to enter. Others might get in if there's room.

The lounges are open every day from 5AM to 1AM. They serve most Aeromexico and SkyTeam partner flights. SkyTeam Elite Plus members and Priority Pass holders can also use them. For 880 MXN, you can buy a day pass through Aeromexico's lounge membership.

Inside, you'll find bars, different seating areas, and a buffet. They offer coffee, drinks, and simple food. There are shower suites, but sign up early because they fill up fast. The lounge can get busy, which might affect your visit.

As a SkyTeam partner, Aeromexico gives access to 600 lounges around the world. This includes Terraza Premier lounges in Monterrey, Guadalajara, Torreon, and Chihuahua. For a better experience, go before the busy flight times to avoid crowds and make sure food is available
