Air Transat Flights

About

Air Transat is a Canadian leisure airline headquartered in Montreal, primarily serving transatlantic and seasonal vacation routes. It operates a fleet of Airbus aircraft—like A321, A330, and occasionally A310 models—and flies to destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, and parts of the Americas.

Founded in 1986 as a charter operator, Air Transat expanded into scheduled service and is known for its vacation packages. The airline focuses on delivering affordable travel with inclusive options such as seat-and-meal bundles, and it’s a member of the Star Alliance's vacation arm.

Check-in

Online check-in is available for most flights from 24 hours up to 2 hours before departure, although on some routes this window may be extended to 24–4 hours. Passengers checking in at the airport can proceed to the appropriate counter or self-service baggage drop to check their luggage.

Check-in counters generally open 4 hours before departure for international flights and close 60 minutes prior, while for domestic flights they typically close 45 minutes prior. Self-service kiosks at most airports follow similar operating hours.

Baggage Allowance

Hand Luggage

Each passenger may bring one carry‑on bag (maximum 51 × 40 × 23 cm) and one personal item (up to 43 × 13 × 31 cm) on board. Economy Class travelers are limited to 10 kg for carry‑ons, while Club Class / Option Plus customers may carry up to 15 kg. Eco Budget fares no longer include a carry‑on—only a personal item is allowed—whereas Eco Standard fares include both carry‑on and personal item allowances.

Checked Baggage

For Economy fares, Air Transat permits one free checked bag weighing up to 23 kg and measuring no more than 158 cm total (L+W+H). Club Class passengers enjoy a more generous allowance of two checked bags at up to 32 kg each. Overweight (23–32 kg) and oversized (158–292 cm) baggage incur additional fees—typically around 100 CAD/USD/€80/£65 per item.

Special & Sports Equipment

Air Transat allows items such as golf clubs, skis, snowboards, bicycles, and similar sports gear, though restrictions apply. For families, one stroller and one car seat per child (and a diaper bag if the child is on an adult's lap) are accepted free of charge. Service animals travel free in the cabin with advance notice, while pets are typically handled under different policies.

Seat Selection

You can choose your preferred seat up to 24 hours before departure, with fees varying depending on the seat’s location and class, starting at around $27 USD. Certain fare types, such as Eco Flex and Club Class, include free seat selection, while Eco Standard and Eco Budget fares require payment for this service.

In some cases, you may be able to change your assigned seat for free during online check-in—for example, to an exit row, extra legroom seat, or an empty seat—though this is not guaranteed on every flight.

Loyalty Program

Air Transat does not currently have its own dedicated loyalty program. However, travelers can earn and redeem rewards through external programs such as Air Miles or by using credit card travel points when booking flights.

In addition, Air Transat partners with Porter Airlines’ VIPorter program, allowing VIPorter members to redeem their points for award tickets on select Air Transat routes. In short, while Air Transat does not operate its own loyalty scheme, passengers can still benefit from earning and using points through Air Miles, credit card rewards, and the VIPorter partnership.

Food & Beverage

Economy Class

On flights to and from Europe, Peru, and Morocco, Economy passengers receive a complimentary hot meal, which includes a choice of two main dishes, along with a salad, dessert, and a glass of wine or non-alcoholic beverage. Additionally, snacks and a bar service featuring complimentary soft drinks, juice, water, coffee, and tea are available on all routes, while alcohol, light meals, and snacks can be purchased on other flights.

Pre-order & Club Class

Air Transat’s pre-order Bistro service allows passengers to select from a variety of meal options—such as Bento boxes, Buddha bowls, sandwiches, and trio dishes—at a lower price when ordered up to 72 hours before departure. In Club Class, travelers enjoy a premium dining experience with a choice of gourmet meals served with salad, dessert, and select wines, plus additional snacks and beverage options included.

In-Flight Entertainment

Individual Seatback Screens & Device Streaming

On Airbus A330 and newer aircraft, passengers enjoy individual touchscreens—8.9-inch in Economy, 12-inch in Club Class—offering a variety of movies, TV shows, music, documentaries, and games, with built-in USB‑A ports to charge devices. On older aircraft like the A321‑200 or certain A330 variants, the system is accessible via your own smartphone, tablet, or laptop, connecting to the onboard network (not allowing internet access) for on-demand content.

Music & Relaxation Channels
Air Transat has partnered with Stingray to enrich the audio experience, offering themed music channels such as Hit List, Kids’ Stuff, TikTok Radio, and more, along with relaxation videos, nature scenes, and full-length concert streaming via Qello—all part of the in-flight entertainment system.

Pet Policy

Air Transat only accepts cats and dogs; other animals are not permitted. For pets traveling in the cabin, reservations must be made at least 24 hours before departure, the combined weight of the animal and carrier must not exceed 10 kg, and the carrier must fit under the seat. A health certificate, rabies vaccination record, and any country-specific entry requirements are also mandatory.

For pets traveling as checked baggage, only cats and dogs are accepted. Reservations must be made in advance, the total weight with the carrier must generally not exceed 45 kg, and an IATA-approved hard-sided crate is required. The same documentation and health requirements apply in this case as well.

Lounge Usage

Air Transat does not include lounge access in its Club Class tickets, aside from priority services like check‑in, boarding, and baggage handling at select airports—lounge access must be arranged separately through programs or cards.

However, in Canadian airports (Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto) Air Transat travelers can access lounges at preferred rates by presenting their boarding pass—for instance, the Air France / Plaza Premium lounges, Aspire Salon, or Plaza Premium Lounge, depending on the airport. These offer amenities like meals, beverages, Wi‑Fi, TV, and sometimes showers or business‑centre access.
