KLM and Air France are both airlines that are part of the Air France-KLM group, which was formed in 2004 when the two airlines merged.

Baggage Allowance

Carry-on Baggage

KLM Airlines' hand baggage policy may vary depending on the type of ticket you have purchased, your destination, and your frequent flyer status. However, as a general rule, the following applies:

Economy Class passengers are allowed one piece of hand baggage with a maximum weight of 12kg and dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25cm.

Premium Comfort Class and Business Class passengers are allowed two pieces of hand baggage with a combined weight of 18kg and dimensions of 55 x 35 x 25cm.

In addition to the above, all passengers are allowed to bring one personal item, such as a handbag, laptop bag, or small backpack, with a maximum size of 40 x 30 x 15cm.

Checked Baggage

Economy Class Light fare passengers do not have any baggage allowance. However, Economy Class passengers on European and intercontinental flights are allowed 1 piece of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 23kg and maximum dimensions of 158cm.

Premium Comfort Class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 23kg, while Business Class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 32kg. The maximum dimensions of each piece of baggage cannot exceed 158cm.

Special Luggage

KLM Airlines allows passengers to bring musical instruments as checked baggage, but if they exceed the weight or size limit, excess fees will apply. Instruments weighing between 32-45kg or larger than 300cm require a reservation at least 48 hours before departure. Musical instruments weighing more than 45kg cannot be transported by the airline and passengers should contact third-party shipping companies for assistance.

Passengers can also bring their wedding dress as either checked or hand baggage, provided it meets the weight and size restrictions. If flying intercontinental and there is enough storage space, the dress can be brought on board as hand baggage.

An urn can be brought in either checked or hand baggage, as long as it's not made of metal and is properly sealed and wrapped. A crematorium certificate is also required during the security check at the airport.

KLM allows passengers to bring sport equipment as checked baggage or carry-on baggage, subject to certain limitations and fees. The specific policies and fees vary depending on the type of sport equipment and the destination. Examples of sport equipment that can be brought include bicycles, skis, golf bags, and diving equipment.

Seat Selection

Passengers who wish to select seats on KLM can choose between extra comfortable seats or regular economy class seats. Extra comfortable seats have various features such as extra legroom, 2-seater rows, or front section seats. Seat selection is subject to a fee, which varies depending on the flight date and the selected seat type. Flying Blue Elite and SkyMiles Elite members can make free or discounted reservations for certain extra comfortable seats and regular seats.

Loyalty Program

KLM's loyalty program, Flying Blue, rewards customers for their loyalty and offers a variety of benefits. Flying Blue members can earn miles for every flight they take and can use these miles to book award tickets, upgrade their seats, and access the lounges. Flying Blue also offers a variety of additional benefits, such as priority check-in, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling. The Flying Blue loyalty program has four membership levels: Explorer, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

In addition, Flying Blue members can earn bonus miles when they book flights with KLM or its partner airlines, such as Air France and Delta Airlines. Flying Blue members also have access to exclusive discounts and promotions, as well as access to the KLM Lounge.

On intercontinental flights, passengers are welcomed with a glass of champagne and offered a variety of snacks and hot and cold beverages. They can also enjoy a dinner created by Dutch top chefs, including a choice of cold starters, main dishes, and desserts, accompanied by selected wines. Breakfast is served on flights with an early morning arrival time. The menu is updated every 3 months, and there is also a quick and light option available for those who prefer it.

In-Flight Entertainment

KLM offers a wide range of in-flight entertainment options on their flights. This includes movies, TV shows, music, games, and a variety of other programs. KLM also offers a selection of international films and TV shows to cater to a diverse range of passengers.

Passengers can access the in-flight entertainment system through their personal screens, which are available on most KLM flights. On select aircraft, passengers can use their own devices to access the entertainment system via the KLM app or a web browser.
