MIAT Mongolian Airlines Flights

About

MIAT Mongolian Airlines is the national flag carrier of Mongolia, established in 1956 and headquartered in Ulaanbaatar. Its main hub is Chinggis Khaan International Airport. The airline operates a fleet of 9 aircraft and offers scheduled flights to over 10 destinations across Asia and Europe. Key cities in its network include Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Bangkok, Frankfurt, and Istanbul.

MIAT has established codeshare agreements with major international carriers such as Aeroflot, Air China, Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, Korean Air, and Turkish Airlines, enhancing its global connectivity. In 2023, the airline resumed domestic services to regions including Altai, Khovd, Mörön, and Dalanzadgad. As part of its modernization efforts, MIAT has added Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet to improve comfort on long-haul routes.

Check-in

MIAT Mongolian Airlines offers both online and airport check-in options for its passengers. Online check-in is available for international flights operated by MIAT and can be accessed from 48 hours up to 2 hours before the scheduled departure time. This service is not available for domestic flights, charter flights, codeshare flights operated by other airlines, or passengers requiring special assistance. Passengers can print their boarding passes or receive them via email. Self-printed boarding passes are accepted at several airports, including Ulaanbaatar (ULN), Seoul–Incheon (ICN), Busan (PUS), Tokyo–Narita (NRT), Hong Kong (HKG), Berlin–Tegel (TXL), and Moscow–Sheremetyevo (SVO).

For airport check-in, MIAT recommends that passengers arrive at the airport at least 2.5 hours before their flight's departure time to allow sufficient time for check-in procedures, security checks, and immigration formalities. Check-in counters typically open 3 hours before departure. Passengers with only hand baggage should arrive at the online check-in counter at least 1 hour before depa

Baggage Allowance

Hand Luggage

MIAT Mongolian Airlines provides different hand baggage allowances based on travel class. Economy Class passengers are allowed 1 piece of hand luggage up to 5 kg, with maximum dimensions of 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Business Class passengers may carry 2 pieces with a combined weight of up to 10 kg. In addition, small personal items such as a handbag, laptop, or camera may be brought on board alongside the hand baggage.

Checked Baggage

Checked baggage allowances also vary by class. Economy Class passengers are allowed 1 piece of checked luggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg and dimensions not exceeding 158 cm (total of length + width + height). Business Class passengers may check in 2 pieces, each weighing up to 32 kg. Any item exceeding these limits is considered oversized baggage and must be approved by the airline in advance.

Special Baggage

MIAT has specific rules for special baggage. Golf equipment (up to 23 kg) can be transported free of charge, but excess weight will incur additional fees. Bicycles (up to 200 x 90 x 50 cm) and ski/snowboard equipment are accepted without oversize charges. Pets, including their containers and food, are charged based on their total weight as excess baggage. Mobility aids such as wheelchairs for passengers with disabilities are carried free of charge.

Seat Selection

MIAT Mongolian Airlines allows passengers to select their seats during the booking process or at check-in. Seat selection options may vary depending on the aircraft configuration. Premium seating options, such as extra legroom or preferred seats, may be available for an additional fee. Passengers are encouraged to choose their seats early to secure their preferred spot.

For travelers who do not select a seat in advance, seats will be assigned during check-in. It's important to note that seat availability can be limited, especially on fully booked flights. Therefore, early seat selection is recommended to ensure a comfortable journey.

Loyalty Program

MIAT Mongolian Airlines' loyalty program, Blue Sky Mongolia, offers members the opportunity to earn miles based on the fare class and distance flown on MIAT-operated flights. These accumulated miles can be redeemed for various rewards, including free tickets, seat upgrades, and additional baggage allowances. The program features multiple membership tiers—Blue, Silver, Gold, and Platinum—each providing increasing benefits such as priority check-in, extra baggage allowances, and lounge access.

Enrollment in the Blue Sky Mongolia program is open to individuals aged two and above, with no registration fee required. New members receive a 300-mile bonus upon registering online. To maximize benefits, members are encouraged to present their membership card when booking flights and during check-in. While the program primarily focuses on MIAT flights, it offers a straightforward way for frequent travelers to accumulate and utilize miles for various travel-related perks.

Food & Beverage

MIAT Mongolian Airlines, as a member of the International Flight Services Association (IFSA), is committed to offering passengers a comfortable travel experience with tasty and nutritious meals. In-flight meals vary depending on the route and flight duration. On long-haul flights, meals typically provide 2000–2400 calories, while short and medium-haul flights offer 800–1000 calories per meal. Business Class passengers are served a three-course meal (starter, main dish, and dessert), mainly featuring Western cuisine, with regional dishes available on flights to destinations like China and Japan. Economy Class meals also focus on Western dishes, and the airline continuously improves meal quality based on passenger feedback.

MIAT also provides a wide range of special meals to accommodate passengers with specific dietary needs due to health, age, or religious reasons. Special meal requests must be made at least 24 hours before departure. Infants aged 0–2 automatically receive baby meals, while meals for older children must be pre-ordered. These services are offered at no additional charge. Special meals can be requested during booking through ticket agents or by contacting MIAT’s call center after booking. Passengers should note that special meals may not be available on codeshare flights operated by other airlines, and it is important to reconfirm any special requests if your flight reservation changes.

In-Flight Entertainment

MIAT Mongolian Airlines offers a diverse in-flight entertainment experience tailored to enhance passenger comfort. On their Boeing 787 and 767 aircraft, each seat is equipped with a personal screen featuring a selection of movies, TV shows, and a moving map display. While much of the content is in Mongolian, passengers can also stream additional entertainment, including English-language options, directly to their personal devices via the airline's onboard network. This streaming service provides access to a broader range of movies, TV shows, and music, ensuring a more personalized entertainment experience.

In collaboration with Inflight Dublin, MIAT has enhanced its in-flight entertainment offerings by integrating the Everhub wireless streaming system and expanding the content available on Panasonic seatback screens. This partnership ensures that passengers across the fleet have consistent access to high-quality entertainment, including the latest movies, TV shows, and music, catering to a variety of preferences. Additionally, passengers can enjoy the "Mongolica" in-flight magazine, which provides insights into Mongolian culture and travel destinations.

Pet Policy

MIAT Mongolian Airlines allows only cats and dogs to be transported either in the cabin (PETC) or in the baggage compartment (AVIH), depending on the animal's weight and size. For pets traveling in the cabin, the combined weight of the pet and its container must not exceed 5 kg, and the total dimensions (height + width + length) must not exceed 115 cm. The pet must remain completely inside the carrier throughout the flight and have enough space to move. The container must be made of sturdy material such as metal, wood, or plastic. Cabin pet transport requires a PETC SSR code in the reservation, with confirmed weight and kennel dimensions.

Pets transported in the baggage compartment must also be cats or dogs only, with a maximum combined weight of 42 kg and total dimensions not exceeding 230 cm. Up to two small animals of the same species that are familiar with each other may be placed in the same container, as long as they have room to move. The kennel must be made of strong and secure materials. Pet transport fees are not included in the free baggage allowance and vary depending on the route. Unaccompanied minors are not allowed to travel with pets. Passengers are responsible for providing all necessary documents such as health certificates and pet passports.

MIAT Mongolian Airlines offers lounge access at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, primarily through the Blue Sky Business Lounge. The lounge provides a quiet environment for passengers to relax before their flights.
