Buta Airways Flights

About

Buta Airways was a key player in opening up the Caucasus region to the world. This former low-cost airline started its journey in Baku, Azerbaijan. It began flying on September 1, 2017, and soon offered trips to 18 places in 7 countries by January 2019. By October 2019, they had 8 Embraer 190 planes in their fleet.

This airline made air travel affordable for many, starting with a 29 euro one-way fare in June 2017. In October 2023, Buta Airways joined with Azerbaijan Airlines to become one strong brand, known as AZAL. Now, all flights carry the AZAL name, using the 'J2' and 'AHY' codes. This change was to make flying better for everyone in the area by improving operations, cutting costs, and offering great service.

Check-in

Buta Airways, in Baku, Azerbaijan, makes check-in easy for all passengers. You can do this online, on the Azerbaijan Airlines site or app, or at the airport. Checking in online is open until 2 hours before your flight. This lets you pick your seat and get your boarding pass right away.

If you're checking in at the airport, Buta Airways suggests you show up early. Arrive at least 45 minutes ahead for domestic flights and 60 minutes for international ones. At the Buta Airways or Azerbaijan Airlines desks, you can drop your luggage and get your boarding pass.

Not everyone can check in online, like kids traveling alone, group travelers, those with pets. They must check-in at the airport.

Baggage Allowance

Buta Airways, Azerbaijan's national airline, has specific rules for baggage. Travelers should know these before flying. The parent company, Azerbaijan Airlines, oversees baggage regulations.

Hand Luggage

You can carry one piece of hand luggage onto the plane. It can weigh up to 8kg. The bag should not be bigger than 55cm x 35cm x 20cm.

Checked Baggage

Passengers can check in two bags. Each can weigh up to 23kg. They must not be larger than 158cm overall. If your bag is too heavy or big, you may need to pay extra.

Special Luggage

Bringing sports gear, instruments, or pets might cost more and have extra rules. Before you fly, check the airline's steps for these items.

The baggage rules change depending on your ticket's class. Always look up the latest rules for your ticket or visit Buta Airways' website.

Seat Selection

Buta Airways, which merged with Azerbaijan Airlines in October 2023 to form AZAL, offered specific seat selection policies aimed at enhancing passenger comfort. Seats are automatically assigned for free based on optimal cabin placement. However, if passengers wish to select a specific seat, such as those with extra legroom or at the front of the cabin, this service requires an additional fee. These premium seats, known as priority seats, provide extra comfort and can be booked during ticket purchase, through the Call Center, or on the Manage Booking page on their website.

Additionally, Buta Airways allowed passengers to book seats after purchasing their flight tickets, making it convenient to secure preferred seating even after the initial booking process. This flexible approach ensured that passengers could tailor their travel experience according to their preferences and needs.

Loyalty Program

Buta Airways, which merged with Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) in October 2023, was part of the AZAL Miles loyalty program. Under this program, passengers could earn Travel and Status points on all Buta Airways flights. These accrued points were only redeemable on Azerbaijan Airlines flights for reward tickets and service class upgrades, not for Buta Airways flights. Members could accumulate miles through various means, including flights, and use these miles for benefits like additional baggage allowance and lounge access for Gold and Platinum members.

Additionally, with the launch of the new "Azal Club" loyalty program, members can earn and redeem miles across a broader network of partners, including retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and online services. This program aims to provide more flexible and extensive benefits, allowing members to use their miles for a wide range of goods and services, further enhancing their travel experience.

Food & Beverage

Despite being a low-cost airline, Buta Airways offered complimentary sandwiches and water on all its flights, making air travel more affordable while still providing basic refreshments. For those desiring more, the airline provided additional options for purchase, including hot meals and a variety of beverages, which could be pre-ordered during the booking process or bought on board.

Passengers had the flexibility to customize their in-flight dining experience according to their preferences and budget. The availability of pre-ordering meals ensured that even those with dietary restrictions or specific tastes could find suitable options. This approach helped Buta Airways maintain a balance between cost efficiency and passenger satisfaction, offering a practical yet pleasant flying experience.

In-Flight Entertainment

Buta Airways offered a straightforward in-flight entertainment system designed to enhance passenger experience. The airline provided a selection of movies, TV shows, music, and games available on personal screens at each seat. This allowed passengers to choose from a variety of entertainment options to make their flight more enjoyable.

The entertainment system aimed to cater to different tastes and preferences, ensuring that passengers had access to diverse content throughout their journey. This approach helped maintain a comfortable and engaging atmosphere on board, even on longer flights.

Pet Policy

Buta Airways allowed passengers to travel with pets under specific conditions to ensure the safety and comfort of both the animals and other passengers. Pets were not allowed in the cabin and had to be transported as checked baggage in a ventilated and temperature-controlled cargo hold. The types of pets accepted included dogs, cats, small birds, rabbits, ferrets, and some other small animals. It was important for the pet's carrier to meet certain standards, such as being escape-proof, leak-proof, and well-ventilated on at least three sides.

To travel with a pet on Buta Airways, passengers needed to make a reservation for their pet in advance due to limited space. Additionally, they had to ensure that the pet was in good health, at least eight weeks old, and not pregnant. All necessary health documents required by the destination country had to be completed and presented at check-in. Passengers were advised to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure to allow sufficient time for check-in and acclimating the pet to the travel conditions.

Lounge Usage

Buta Airways passengers now have the chance to use Azerbaijan Airlines business class lounges. They can use these at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport and some other places. If you're flying at a certain fare level or pay a bit more, you could get in.

In these lounges, you'll find comfy seats, drinks, and sometimes showers too. This upgrade comes with Buta Airways becoming part of AZAL. It offers travelers more comfort and better service. They're making travel smoother by letting Buta Airways passengers use these better lounges.

Buta Airways is starting to offer 'Buta Budget' seats on AZAL flights. This move might change who can use the lounges and how. So, it's a good idea to always check both airlines' websites before you fly. This way, you won't miss out on the perks of the lounges on your trip.
